OUR COMMITMENTS FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS


IMPROVE SERVICES TO RESIDENTS AND THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE DISTRICTS

• Invest $500 million for the maintenance of our infrastructures (streets, water and sewer systems, etc.)

• Double the budget to add more measures to moderate speed on streets  

• Build new arenas in all sectors

• Improve availability of recreational and sports activities (swimming lessons, activities in parks, etc.)

• Build more parks and add splash pools in existing parks  

•  Extend the season for outdoor pools and wading pools  

• Create new green spaces and enhance existing green spaces

 • Improve snow removal operations and reduce time for clearing snow from sidewalks

 

BUILD AN EFFICIENT, SAFE AND INNOVATIVE TRANSIT SYSTEM 

• Pursue transit coordination with the City of Ottawa

• Build a light rail system in Gatineau beginning in the west end of the city  

• Improve public transit in the east end of the city, by first extending Rapibus to Lorrain  

 • Improve the present public transit system (more frequent service, more reserved lanes, better synchronized routes, etc.)

• Add bike paths and create a network ensuring the safety of cyclists and pedestrians  

 

ENSURE SOUND MANAGEMENT OF PUBLIC FINANCES AND A RESPONSIBLE TAXATION SYSTEM

• Continue to revise expenditures without diminishing the quality of services

• Limit the increase in municipal taxes by seeking alternative sources of revenue 

• Demand other levels of government to pay their fair share of infrastructure projects

 

PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT AND ENSURE THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF CITY LAND

 • Re-establish the free distribution of compost to residents

• Implement a grants program for the purchase of washable diapers  

• Require businesses, multiple dwelling structures, institutions and industries to compost and recycle

• Ban single use plastic bags on the City of Gatineau territory

 • Fight climate change by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions   

 

INVEST IN CULTURE, KNOWLEDGE AND OUR IDENTITY

 • Revitalize the downtown through development, neighbourhood animation and development with families in mind

• Enliven and develop former downtown areas (Vieux-Buckingham, Vieux-Masson, Vieux-Aylmer, Vieux-Gatineau)

• Invest in our small neighbourhood libraries as well as in Lucy-Faris and Guy-Sanche

• Initiate planning for a new library in the downtown   

 

CONTINUE TO OCCUPY OUR POSITION AS A MAJOR CITY AND INNOVATE IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 

• Become an international tourist destination, particularly with major events (ex. Mosaïcanada and Cirque Du Soleil)

 • Enhance recreational-tourist sites (ex.: Jacques-Cartier Street, Dalton Farm, Des Cèdres Park Moore Farm, etc.)

• Promote smart technology and free data in order to modernize services to residents (ex.: permits on line)

•Continue to reduce municipal regulations and administrative constraints to make life easier for people

•Support post-secondary institutions for the development of the region
